Geographical Evidence in Mahabharata

In the Bhishma festival of Mahabharata, Sanjay has described Dhritarashtra as the geography of India.

Himwan, Himkut, Mountains Nishadh, Vaidyurmanyam Nilgiri, Shvetagiri, Shringwan were the abodes of Siddhas and Charanas on these six mountains.
North of the Himalayas is the year possibly Mount Kailash.


Himkoot is the position of Harivarsha ahead of Mount 6. There is a mountain called Mallyavan, south of Nilgiri and northeast of Nishad mountain. Next to Mallywan is Gandhamadan Mountain. In the middle of both is Suvarnamay Meru mountain, its height is 84 thousand yojana, Rajan has penetrated into the earth even below 84 thousand yojana. Mount Himalaya is Everest.

Mount Meru is standing up and down covering the entire loco. Four islands are settled behind it. Bhadrashava, Ketumal, Jambudweep India, Uttarkuru This is the abode of saintly men.

North of Nil mountain is north from white year, Hiranyak year, then ahead of Mount Sringwan, there is a mountain called Airavat.


The two years of India and Airavat, respectively, to the south and the north, are situated in the same manner as the two chains of the bow. Five years in between are White, Hiranyak, Elavritta, Harivarsha and Hamavat. In the middle is the epilogue year.

Descending from Brahmaloka, Tripathgamini divine river Ganga was first established in that Vindu lake, from which only seven streams have been divided.

The names of streams are Vasvoksara, Nalini, Pavani Saraswati, Jambunadi, Sita, Ganga and Sindhu. The stream named Saraswati is directly visible and disappears somewhere.


The White Gods are said to be the abode of all the gods and asuras.
Gandharva resides on Nishadgiri and Brahmrishi resides on Nilgiri.
Shringwan Parvat is the only shrine of Devta.
